THE misery of the 2002 season continued yesterday with all Transco Lancashire League matches abandoned due to rain.
There have now been 25 no results this season and there are no reserve dates remaining.
So there was no change to the league standings yesterday with all teams receiving three points.
NELSON professional Joe Scuderi returned to the Seedhill line-up just a fortnight after dislocating a finger at Rawtenstall and looked like he was on his way to a big total against HASLINGDEN before rain stopped play.
The teams went off at 3.25pm with 13 of Nelson's 50 overs remaining.
Scuderi was on 57 not out, having hit six fours. Lincoln Marshall had earlier hit two fours in his 29 before being bowled by the Haslingden pro Ian Austin.
There was a long wait before the match was eventually abandoned, with the Haslingden players fancying their chances of reaching 122 with the few overs they hoped to get in.
It wasn't to be, though, and the umpires called the game off at 6.50pm.
BURNLEY never got the chance to attempt to reach their target of 126, set by RISHTON, as rained stopped play for a third and final time as they went on for their innings at 6.45pm.
The game was reduced by one over to start and then the teams lost another 10 overs as rained stopped play with 16 of Rishton's 49 overs left.
Paul Whalley and David Mills had put just 54 on in 25 overs for the first wicket so it was down to Peter Sleep to come on and get the runs on the board.
His 36 came off 46 balls and contained five fours. He also scored off 15 successive balls.
The side were on just 89-1 when rain stopped play for the first time with Rishton 33 overs into their innings.
During the rain-induced break they lost 10 overs so had just six remaining when they came back out.
They eventually reached 126.
Lancashire's James Anderson, who was set to play in today's Lancashire Seconds match at Nelson, took three wickets for 28 runs in his nine overs.
The rain came down once again during tea stopping play for a second time but by 6.45pm Burnley were ready to come back out and attempt to reach their target in the 22 overs remaining.
But before play could get started the rain began to fall for a third time and the game was abandoned.
BACUP reached 204 in 40 overs after being put in to bat by ACCRINGTON.
Terry Lord high-scored for the champions with 68. His 50 came off 45 balls and his 68 included three fours and four sixes.
The professional Shaun Young hit 58 (seven fours) before being bowled by Steve Juliff, who took also took the wicket of Lord.
David Ayres had earlier made 41.
Bacup will feel disappointed that they couldn't finish the job off as they would have felt confident of taking maximum points from bottom-of-the-league Accrington.
Third-placed ENFIELD reached 137-7 with nine balls left of their scheduled 39 overs when the weather had the final say at RAWTENSTALL.
The visitors were 91-4 at the first rain-break and with 11 overs trimmed off their innings Adam Bracewell led a late flurry with a couple of sixes in his 34 before he became John Dawson's fifth victim.
Professional Martin Van Jaarsveld had earlier hit eight fours in his 38 before both sides had to settle for three points apiece.
That was also the case at TODMORDEN where LOWERHOUSE professional Jacques Rudolph's unbeaten half-century proved to be in vain.
Two stoppages for rain reduced the Lowerhouse innings to 38 overs and after being given an excellent start by Rudolph and Stan Heaton they posted a total of 129-3.
The pair put on 59 for the second wicket before Heaton was run out with the score on 88.
Rudolph completed his 50 with one six and six fours but the rain prevented any chance of a Todmorden reply.
EAST LANCS' game against CHURCH was stopped for rain at 4.40pm and was eventually called off at 6.40pm.
East Lancs had batted first and made 117 for the loss of three wickets off 33 overs.
Phil Bolton made 34 and Andy Clague was on 29 not out before the enforced break.
The East Lancs professional Con de Lange's difficult season continued as he was bowled for two by Nick Westwell.
Westwell also took the wicket of Bolton.
THERE is a double header in the Lancashire League next weekend.
