VOLUNTEERS are desperately needed to safeguard the future of one of Ramsbottom's historic attractions, its heritage centre.
A shortage has meant the Carr Street centre has had to remain closed to the public on a number of occasions.
Mrs Linda de Ruijter, member of Ramsbottom Heritage Society, said: "The centre performs an important role for visitors and residents in Ramsbottom. It has information on the area available for walkers, those seeking historical facts, publications and generally show interest in out little town."
The centre is open on Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 4.30pm. It closes from Christmas to Easter in order to prepare a new display and exhibition.
Groups are invited to visit the centre on weekdays by arrangement.
Mrs de Ruijter said: "This year, the centre has had to remain closed on some weekends, due mainly to the shortage of keyholders who open and close the centre on a rota basis. Obviously the situation regarding opening is critical as visitor numbers will decline if they find the closed sign on the door."
