GRAEME Souness could swoop for Coventry City midfielder David Thompson before Rovers return for pre-season training next Wednesday.
As revealed earlier in the summer, Souness has targeted the former Liverpool star as the man to provide competition for Keith Gillespie on the right-hand side of midfield.
Initially, City were demanding £4.5 million for the 23-year-old wide-man -- a fee which scared Rovers off.
But as I understand it the cash-strapped Sky Blues have now lowered their sights and a compromise figure of £3.5 million could soon be reached.
