A BURGLAR who has vowed to put his drug taking behind him has been given a chance to prove he can do it.
Andrew Mark David Campbell, 27, had become a dishonest person because of his addiction and had spoiled his life. He had been on a detoxification programme and wanted to get out of Burnley to put his habit behind him, the magistrates court was told. Campbell was sent to live at Canning Street Hostel, Liverpool, for 12 months by a deputy district judge.
He must take part in the Addressing Substance Related Offending Programme as part of a two-year rehabilitation order.
The defendant, of Laithe Street, Burnley, had admitted burglary on May 30. He was told he could have been sent to jail and that would be the only place he would end up if he carried on behaving as he had.
The court order would be more difficult than going to custody as he would have to perform rather than just sitting and waiting to be released.
