IN reply to Sergeant Stuart Isherwood's response to my complaint about lack of DVLA and police action over reports about untaxed vehicles (Letters, June 27), I would question why I was told action would be taken (sending a patrol car up) when, from his comments, this would clearly appear not to be the intention.
I was not asking for, or expecting the untaxed vehicles to be removed, although I clearly would prefer this to happen, but I was of the opinion that the police had, or used to have the power to issue fixed penalty notices for this type of offence.
One of these vehicles has been untaxed for at least 18 months.
The second untaxed vehicle to which I referred was for sale at the time of my reporting it to the police and, as I have not seen this recently, am presuming this has since been sold and was driven away by the new owner, also in its untaxed state.
Whatever the reason for the lack of action from the police and the DVLA, the fact remains that this is just not good enough.
Until I see appropriate action from either the DVLA or the police, I will remain disappointed and angry, because this driver, by the very lack of action taken, is being encouraged to break the law and believe that he can get away with this.
The rest of us law-abiding citizens will continue to lose what little faith we ever had in the law enforcment authorities and wonder why we ever bothered to believe that rapid and appropriate action would ever be taken in the first place.
