I WOULD once again like to thank Cllr Jon Barry for mentioning me in Citizen letters (June 20).
Again Cllr Barry seems to share the rest of the Green Party's inability to grasp simple concepts.
Yes Cllr Barry I am a member of the Labour Party but no, I am not writing on behalf of the Labour Party.
I wrote to express my own views and concerns about aspects of the Green Party's policies.
It might be nice if you, for once, could emerge from behind your own party's spin machine and tell us what you think.
I was deeply shocked by Cllr Barry's letter as it appears I have caught a second member of the Green Party attempting to mislead readers about Green Party policy (you may remember Prof John Whitelegg was highlighted making seriously misleading statements about the Green Party's transport policy last autumn).
I stated that the Green Party believe that couples who have two or more children are living an unsustainable lifestyle and this was simply a reflection on their policy on population.
Cllr Barry thinks I am b
eing rude and offensive by mentioning this.
What he cannot say is that I am wrong, for the simple reason that he knows I am right.
The Green Party believes that there are too many people in the world (6 billion) and that they are using available resources in a non-sustainable way.
They also believe that this situation is mirrored in Britain's population of 60 million.
Their party's Population Policy Document, Policy P400 gives one of their short-term objectives as: "To stimulate awareness in the UK and Europe of the necessity of reducing the birth rate to well below replacement rate".
Which means less than two children per couple.
It is clear from their own documents that they believe that couples that have two or more children are perpetuating an unsustainable way of life.
It has been mentioned that the Green Party want to achieve a reduction in population through non-coercive means.
That surely means then by persuasion and telling people about their policies - what else are non-coercive means?
What has really upset the Green Party is that their embarrassing policy on population has been exposed.
I would agree Cllr Barry that this policy is rude and offensive, but they are not my views...
they are his!
It is time the Green Party apologised to Citizen readers for, once again, trying to mislead them and for holding such rude and offensive opinions.
