A TEENAGER who was injured in a car crash is to attempt to walk again for the first time.
Andrew McMinn, 19, of Blake Gardens, Great Harwood, suffered head injuries when the 4x4 vehicle he was a passenger in left a road in Clayton-le-Moors.
For nine weeks he has been at Highbank rehabilitation unit in Bury which provides care for those with traumatic brain injuries.
His girlfriend Adele Bolton says doctors plan to get him on his feet in the next couple of weeks.
A trip to visit his home with his family could also be on the cards.
Adele, 18, of Butts Mount, said: "He is really coming on now and we can all see a difference from when he went there at first.
"The doctors and nurses say that in the next couple of weeks they will try to get him on his feet and walking.
"The problem at the moment is that he gets tired very easily but they will stand him up with a hoist and take it from there."
Andrew, who was employed as a slaughterman at the Slinger Group meat supply company in Great Harwood, is also making progress learning to communicate properly.
She said: "It is hard for him and he does get frustrated sometimes but the staff say he is doing really well and they have never seen anyone come on as quickly as he has.
"He is determined to get well again and the support we have had from everyone has been overwhelming. His family and me are really grateful to everyone who has phoned and helped with fundraising."
