ORGANISERS of last weekend's Lancashire Youth Games have declared the event 'a huge success.'
The competition at Salt Ayre Sports Centre attracted 1,500 young competitors from across Lancashire in a range of sports.
City council sports development manager, Richard Hammond, said: "The Games were without a doubt the most successful the county has hosted yet and it was a privilege for the city council to play host to such a great event.
"The atmosphere around Salt Ayre throughout the day was fantastic and the one thing we did not anticipate was the number of spectators that attended.
"It was great to see so many families from across Lancashire turn out to watch the Games and we would like to thank each and every one of them for their support.
The events themselves went off without any problems and I know from those that I had chance to watch that the young people were thoroughly enjoying themselves."
John Donnellon, the council's corporate director for regeneration said: "The Youth Games were a tremendous success, which showcased Salt Ayre as a perfect venue for a multi activity event, it was good to see so many participants from all over Lancashire enjoying the district's facilities."
As well has playing host to the Games Lancaster came out on top of a number events, taking first place in boccia, year five swimming and athletics as well as taking silver in rugby union years six and seven and bronze in year six swimming, boccia and girls cricket.
