HINDLEY Mornington High has reaped a creativity reward by being made a Specialist Arts College.
Today, staff and pupils at the Mornington Road school were celebrating the honour announced by Secretary of State for Education Estelle Morris.
Headteacher Jane Lees was determined to capitalise on the school's strength in the visual arts by claiming the arts college tag following a highly competitive bidding process.
And Governors' chairman Cllr Stuart Shaw admitted he was thrilled: "We know our pupils, the community of Hindley and beyond will benefit massively from this."
Recently, Leigh MP Andy Burnham opened a £1m visual arts and languages building and over the next four years, more than £500,00 will be spent on enhancing the visual arts and ICT facilities.
Extra staff will be taken on and Mornington will become a centre of excellence for visual arts training for education.
