THERE'S no place like home, as Dorothy and Jim Hunt discovered when they left Atherton for a visit to . . . Atherton.
The Lambeth Street couple have just returned from a trip to the United States to see their daughter, Yvonne, a computer executive and vice-president of internal communications with Hewlett Packard, in Atherton, California.
The Hunts were delighted to be reunited with Yvonne, aged 39, a former Atherton St Richard's School pupil who studied at Mount St Joseph's, Leigh College and Bradford University.
Now back home after a month in the USA, an excited Mrs Hunt explained how as members of Atherton Heritage Society they had combined the visit with a memorable meeting with their counterparts from the Stateside township which has a population of 7,000.
She said: "As the first visitors from England to Atherton, USA, we were given a wonderful welcome by the committee and met the chief of police, town planners and other dignitaries. Perhaps this will lead to closer ties between the communities."
