CHESS club chairman Simon Woodcock achieved a perfect six out of six score to win the annual Warrington League Lightning open competition.
In a fast, fun competition where a buzzer every 10 seconds signalled each players' next move, Simon beat Atherton Chess Club rivals Peter Mulleady and Paul Whitehouse on his way to a faultless score.
Junior player Christopher Brodie fared well in his first outing for the club.
Club members had a memorable night also collecting trophies for winning the Warrington League Division One and the Peninsula Cup.
County player David Brodie helped Lancashire to a national semi-final win 8.5-7.5 over Warwickshire. They now meet Cambridgeshire in Saturday's final at Leicester, when Simon Woodcock will be hoping to bring another trophy home.
While the county team was in action, Simon finished joint first in the major section at the South Lakes chess congress -- his third major section competition of the year.
The club meets Mondays at 7.30pm in the function room at the Atherton Arms. Juniors meet there on Wednesdays (6pm - 7.30pm).
