POLICE have released an artist's impression of the man they are hunting after a nurse was sexually assaulted.
The 21-year-old victim was attacked in Shadsworth Road, Blackburn, close to the junction with Haslingden Road.
She was making her way to Queens Park Hospital at 12.45pm on Tuesday.
She fought the attacker as he tried to snatch her handbag but he pushed her to the ground and committed a serious sexual assault.
The nurse managed to break free and ran to a nearby building site where workmen raised the alarm.
Police today urged the public to help catch the attacker.
Detective Sergeant Paul Murphy of Blackburn CID said: "If anyone recognises the man in the artist's impression or has any other information we would ask them to come forward.
"The victim was subjected to a very serious sexual assault."
The attacker was white, 20-25 years old, of medium build with short hair and blond stubble.
He wore a blue, three-quarter length jacket, denim jeans and a plain blue baseball cap.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Blackburn police on 01254 353564 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
