A SELF-confessed tomboy from Preston has won herself a ticket to Thailand to attend the 20th World Scout Jamboree after impressing judges with her survival techniques.
Kylie Withall, 16, of Wentworth Drive, Broughton, has been a girl scout since she was three years old, following in the lead of her mum Sara, who was a troop leader.
Now in December the former Broughton High School pupil will be jetting off to South East Asia to meet international scouts as part of the jamboree.
She was selected for the overseas trip after attending a three-day camp in Beacon Fell, near Goosnargh, where she showed off her team-building skills making an 'A' frame out of ropes and poles.
Kylie also had to build her own campfire and cook a dinner of fish and potatoes.
She said: "I was always a bit of a tomboy. I can't keep still for five minutes and love being outdoors. I have been canoeing, rock-climbing and spent some time in Holland with other scouts.
"I am really excited to be going to Thailand."
Kylie is one of 36 scouts and venture scouts attending the trip from Lancashire and is excited at the prospect of making international friends.
And with 60,000 scouts attending she'll be hard pressed not to find a few new chums.
"We've made a friendship ball where people can write down their addresses so we can all keep in touch with each other," said Kylie.
"I can't wait to go and see the high mountains in the north and the sandy beaches and coral reefs in the south. It will be beautiful and we can have campfires in the evening."
But before she heads off on the trip Kylie, who received £100 sponsorship towards the trip from Bowker BMW, will be starting a Btec in public services at Preston College in September with plans to go to university and a career in the police force.
Bowker general manager Tom Fox said: "Kylie's letter really struck a chord, we can't help everyone out, she has a refreshing and worldly outlook to life, I hope she has a great time."
