DISAPPOINTMENT has turned to delight for a Bury schoolboy who can certainly put his shirt on being the envy of his chums.
For Lewis Morrison (13), is now in possession of an England World Cup soccer shirt, autographed by the squad.
The gift was a consolation prize courtesy of Bolton and Bury Education Business Partnership (EBP) after the Elton High School pupil missed out on a go-karting challenge.
Earlier this year, the EBP was invited by its Oldham counterpart to find fathers and sons for the challenge at Trafford Park. Those already lined up to take part were former Elton High pupils Gary and Phil Neville.
But when the numbers of those from Bury and Bolton were suddenly cut, Lewis and his dad missed out on the opportunity to participate.
Sandra Baker, EBP project support, said: "I had to tell the school that all the places had been filled and that Lewis could not go. I then received a phone call from Lewis's father and had to explain the situation.
"Mr Morrison was quite upset at the way the event had been organised and I apologised for the upset and explained it was not my fault."
But Sandra was able to secure what she described as a "consolation prize" for the youngster.
She explained: "I have a contact who does some work with the security team looking after the England football squad when they play international games in this country. He kindly agreed to get me a signed shirt for Lewis. The team gladly obliged."
