THE opening of Donna's new Dream House in Chapel Street, Blackpool, later this month promises magical holiday experiences for a further 500 terminally ill-children during the coming year.
This second holiday home for sick children and their families is a dream come true which celebrates and fulfils the legacy left by Blackpool girl, Donna Curtis, who died of cancer six years ago, aged just 20.
Since her death Donna's parents, hoteliers Len and Barbara Curtis, have poured their heartfelt energies into carrying out their daughter's wishes.
They have sent a party of kids off on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to America and now are providing a second holiday venue in Blackpool for youngsters with life-threatening illnesses.
The new Dream House, which comprises four separate themed family units, will soon be filled with the whoops and tinkling laughter of wide-eyed children. Football fans will be thrilled at Blackpool FC's sponsored Seasiders' Room and Winnie the Pooh's den, Teddy Bear World and Cartoon World are certain to coax smiles from young visitors. There's also a colourful Disney Room crammed with favourite characters and an exciting big-top-designed Circus Room.
The venue also offers a communal lounge area, entertainment room, kitchen, barbecue area and quiet room.
Mr Curtis says he's very excited about the new venture and very grateful for the support of the local community. "It wouldn't have been possible without the support of the local community, businesses and the Community Service Programme who supplied most of the labour for the project," he says.
"The renovations to the property alone have cost in excess of £60,000. Blackpool Borough Council have let us have it for a peppercorn rent and most of the facilities inside and outside have been donated."
Visiting families will also get free admission to the Tower, Sea Life and Tussauds plus vouchers for fish and chips and fast food snacks.
Anyone who wishes to make a donation is asked to phone (01253) 627644.
