FINANCE is one word that isn't usually thought of as interesting.
But Nelson Community Credit Union took a step away from boring financial matters yesterday as they celebrated joining banks and building societies under new regulations.
They now have new powers under the Financial Services Authority and can offer new benefits and services for their members.
Credit Unions are local services which are geared to the needs of local people, and now offer the chance to protect money in the same way as banks and building societies.
Nelson Community Credit Union President Lou Gildea said: "The credit union movement has been campaigning for changes to how credit unions are regulated for many years, and it's great to see the benefits happening now."
