A DRINK driver who smashed into a vehicle and then claimed his car had been stolen has been jailed for four months.
Burnley Crown Court heard how Andrew Bellusci, 38, also lied to the police in a statement and led them up the garden path.
Bellusci was told by Recorder Roger Hedgeland he had been frightened of the consequences of the accident because he had been under the influence of alcohol and drove away.
The judge said the defendant then told the police a complete lie instead of owning up and then followed it up by lying to police.
Recorder Hedgeland said the offence was a long trail of events which Bellusci had constructed well to avoid responsibility for his dangerous driving.
Bellusci, of Birchall Avenue, Darwen, had denied attempting to pervert the course of justice.
