ORGANISERS are still to announce a replacement date for Burnley's huge Bands in the Park event which was scrapped last week over safety fears.

A replacement gig is expected to take place at the town's Mechanics venue.

The outdoor concert was scrapped last week when police said they were concerned about safety.

The free Bands in the Park free festival at Queen's Park on July 28 was set to be the biggest event on the Burnley calendar this year.

But police said Burnley Council's decision to only use 18 stewards to look after the estimated 10,000 visitors was not sufficient.

They said at least 1,000 stewards would be needed.

Mick Cartledge, director of community and leisure services, said: "We haven't got a date set yet because of work at the Mechanics which is being done on the seating."
