A SPATE of firebombings at a block of houses has left a man fearing for his family's safety.

David Vallender, 40, from Somerset, is renovating a house in Manchester Road, Burnley, for him and his family.

But the complex, which is made up of mainly empty properties, has been targeted four times in the past thirteen months by arsonists.

Father-of-three David is due to move into his home in the next few weeks. He said: "I am really concerned about moving. I have got smoke alarms but you just don't know what is going to happen.

"I don't know if tomorrow morning I am going to come and find it burned out, or if it could happen in the future.

"These people don't think about the harm that they are doing."

The latest arson attack, which occurred on Wednesday, destroyed three floors of one of the homes.

Fortunately, the occupants of two of the flats gutted in the fire were not at home.

David, originally from Glastonbury, said: "There will be in excess of £50,000 damage there

"All the stairs and the some of the original stonework has been damaged.

"There have also been break-ins and all sorts of things have been thrown through the windows. I don't know who is doing it, or why. I have properties in Somerset but I only get problems in Burnley.

"As soon as people move out of them here people go in and wreck them."

DS Pete Simm, of Burnley CID, is investigating the case. He said: "We believe the fires were started with accelerants at 8pm on Wednesday.

"The site has been attacked before and we are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward."
