BAG a room at BAGS Blackpool hotel group, created by gays for gays.
This small hotel cluster -- Blackpool Accommodation for Gays -- formed about six years ago and now comprises about 50 holiday establishments. The guest houses, hotels and holiday flats provide more than1,000 gay-friendly bed spaces in the resort which is now known as the Gay Capital of the North of England.
"Every gay visitor to Blackpool can now stay at a BAGS establishment, knowing that the accommodation is gay-owned," says Peter Gledhill, chairman of the BAGS committee.
"Accordingly, they can rest assured that each proprietor is fully understanding and appreciative of a guest's lifestyle and sexuality. "And of course, we are in the best position to be able to advise visitors who may be unfamiliar with the Blackpool scene, about the best bars, clubs and other facilities," adds Peter.
THE gay-owned accommodation is mainly situated behind the top end area of the town centre's Talbot Road, conveniently placed for top cabaret bar Funny Girls and other gay venues, plus theatres, restaurants and the resort's prime attractions.
"Other British holiday town hoteliers have tried a similar concept, but none have succeeeded as notably as BAGS," adds Peter.
BAGS also incorporates gay associate members who run a diverse collection of different businesses and is currently a member of the Blackpool Combined Association.
