THE proposed closure of Haslingden baths sounds the death knell for swimmers of Haslingden and Helmshore. It is a very popular venue, with swimmers travelling from Bury, Ramsbottom and Great Harwood.
The over 50s club on Mondays and Wednesdays is very well subscribed and welcomes and encourages newcomers .
I have learned to swim since I retired and can now swim at least 30 lengths. Swimming is now the highlight of my life, as I need to exercise for my health. Two of my sisters, who are also pensioners, are also enjoying swimming.
Is Rossendale to become a skeleton area, with empty shops, miserable market, nowhere to go and people hanging about on street corners? Is this the 21st century Rossendale we deserve?
