MARLON Beresford is back training with the Clarets but neither he nor manager Stan Ternent are any wiser about his immediate future.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper, who made his 300th appearance for Burnley while on loan from Middlesbrough last season, is one of hundreds of professional players facing an uncertain future in the aftermath of the ITV Digital debacle.
He confessed: "I don't know myself what is happening but Stan has asked me to come here and train and it is important that I stay fit.
"I have been here all week after coming down for a day last week.
"The manager said I was welcome to train and it is good for me. But as to the future, everything is very much up in the air.
"It is the same for a lot of people after the TV financial package collapsed."
Beresford is unsure whether he will be going out with the Clarets for the Steam Packet Football Festival in the Isle of Man, starting at the weekend, but Ternent has admitted he is interested in signing both Beresford and the other Marlon, central defender Broomes.
"I don't yet know if they will be going across, we will have to wait and see," he explained. "And I still don't know whether I can sign them or get a deal with Dean West.
"But we are now getting to the position when we are going to have to put people in the picture as to the future."
The signing of a second goalkeeper to compete for the spot with Greece international Nik Michopoulos remains a priority for Ternent after the release of Greek youngster Luigi Cennamo at the end of last season.
Beresford returned to Turf Moor on loan when Michopoulos was injured in the FA Cup defeat by Cheltenham Town in January, impressing in 13 games before being recalled by Boro at then end of March.
He has admitted he would love to come back to Burnley on a permanent basis having been a hero throughout the mid-90s but he is aware that Ternent's hands remain tied.
For now he is just grateful to be able to get out on the training ground and make sure he is ready for action, whoever may come in for him.
Clarets fans will be hoping that it is Burnley who can put together the deal that would give Ternent two top class stoppers to choose from when the new season starts on August 10 with the visit of Brighton and Hove Albion.
