STUDENTS at Leigh St Mary's RC High School, Astley, have won a double sporting jackpot this year.
In January they received a grant of £2,568 from Sport England's Awards For All scheme to start a table tennis club, and a recent bid for £1,929 for badminton equipment was also successful.
As a result of the first bonanza the school bought six table tennis tables and other equipment and can now boast a thriving club which is looking to form a community link.
PE teacher Lynne Hunter said: "The grants will raise standards in the students' performances both during lessons and in after school practices."
