Just thought I'd sound off a little about the Environment department of the Council.
Three months ago a couple of black bags full of rubbish were thrown over the fence of the Newton Estate, which borders Caton Road, onto the banking opposite Lancaster Rubber.
I felt a need to report this to the department as the contents had spilled out and the most noticeable piece of junk was a white toilet seat!
Bearing in mind the council has had a bad press recently about grot spots etc.
and its small minded attitude, I thought I was doing them a favour by bringing the presence of the 'throne' to their attention, I was assured that the rubbish would go.
As I drive along Caton Road every morning it soon became obvious that the offending seat would not be removed, in fact I was half expecting a sign to be erected to inform everyone of this new facility.
As the weeks passed by, the shining white seat became concealed by the growth of the summer grasses, until two weeks ago when the council cut the grass around it making sure the new art form was not disturbed!
Mission accomplished, the seat now looks once more a monument the city can be proud of.
It is a pity that the two workers from the cleansing department who drive down the promenade in their van every Saturday and Sunday can't be despatched to move the piece of modern art to a more appropriate position, perhaps outside the Town Hall to act as a reminder of the lack of services our Council affords us.
