WITH regard to 'Disgruntled' motorist in last week's Citizen, who I presume was complaining about taking an hour and a half to get through Lancaster by car while on his way to Preston, can I draw his attention to the fact that a train can get to Preston city centre from Lancaster in around 20 minutes.

Of course in an ideal world you could have hopped on board a reliable, safe and cheap bus at Heysham which would have taken a few minutes to drop you off in Morecambe where a clean, reliable, inexpensive train would ferry you direct to Preston or at least to Lancaster for a smooth and timely interchange.

In an ideal world one return ticket, costing no more than £5, would have covered you for all your bus and train journeys and you'd have no parking costs or worries.

Unfortunately, and this is the politics I presume 'Disgruntled' is referring to, successive governments haven't given a second thought to public transport - throwing the juicy bits to profit hungry PLCs and leaving the rest to rot.

Or perhaps 'Disgruntled' is harping on about a nice, convenient, multi-million pound road from Heysham straight to the motorway.

OK, it may ruin the beauty of the local countryside and cost a fortune and soon become busy with shoppers checking out the new out-of-town shopping malls but, in the short term, it would make this particular motorist a little less disgruntled.

Digging up eight miles of countryside and spending millions of tax payers money so that disgruntled can digest his cornflakes a little easier in the morning - sounds well worth it to me!
