TOP dogs in the world of canine care!
That's Bury couple Debbie Keane and Gary Bennett who are currently grooming a new and innovative business winner.
And if you've heard of Bugsy Malone, then here's Bugsie's at home.
Bugsie's Mobile Dog Wash is the name of the company which the partners have launched under franchise.
Using their specially-adapted van, complete with their own corporate livery, the couple will visit the homes of owners throughout Bury and wash their dogs, big or small. Debbie and Gary's mobile vehicle comes complete with all the trimmings to give each dirty dog its day.
The van is fitted with a warm water mobile dog bath. Debbie said: "We offer a medicated hydro-wash to clean the skin thoroughly, followed by a special flea rinse and conditioner."
Services also on offer to the most discerning of dogs embrace ear and eye care, nail trimming and general grooming.
Added Debbie: "We saw something on television about Bugsie's three years ago and at that time we thought we wished someone could do something like that here.
"Later, we saw an advert in a newspaper for people to set up on their own under the Bugsie's franchise. As we have three dogs, we both thought it was a fantastic idea."
They got the franchise and underwent training in the art of dog grooming, courtesy of the Hove-based company.
The couple have already enlisted doggy clients thanks to their friends and are currently marketing themselves through pet stores and veterinary surgeries.
"We had to buy the van and adapt it and in all the investment totals around £15,000," said Gary.
He stresses the mobile dog wash service is ideal for the elderly or others unable to give their pets a thorough grooming.
Bugsie's will visit an owner's home, take the dog into the van and return fido in a fabulous condition.
"It's a simple but excellent idea," continued Debbie. "What we are saying to owners is why go through all the mess, time and bother of washing their dog at home?"
This new business is a radical career departure for the couple who live in the Redvales area of Bury. Previously, Debbie worked in a sandwich shop while partner Gary drove a seven ton truck.
