LOWTON thrower Mike Floyd can cock a snook at selectors who left him out of the Commonwealth Games squad for Manchester next week.
The 25-years-old Sale Harriers' hammer star was more than a little disappointed when he was omitted from the England squad despite finishing third in recent trials. Those in the know picked the first, second and fourth placed throwers to his family's and my great surprise.
I can't see the point of having trials if the people in form are not chosen and given a chance.
However, on Saturday Mike proved the defeat of the selected Bill Beauchamp into fourth place was no fluke when he did it again in the AAA championships and European Games trials at the weekend -- throwing over a metre further than the man in favour.
It's no consolation, but nice one, Mike. A deserved poke in the eye for those who didn't have faith.
No hammer throwers have been named in the team for Germany as yet.
