A MAN who arrived in the UK with £10 in his pocket and is now is estimated to be worth £35 million is the new president of Bury Rotary Club.
And in a recent Sunday Times "Rich List," Mr Gurbachan Singh Chadha occupied the same placing as Manchester United and England soccer star David Beckham.
Mr Chadha, who will celebrate his 66th birthday next month, came to the UK from India in 1970 where his father-in-law was.
He immediately launched his own company, Manchester-based Supreme Imports, which today imports batteries for sale throughout the UK. Mr Chadha also runs a thriving property development business.
"I came to Britain with just £10 in my pocket," he says. His hard work and the subsequent success he has achieved in business has propelled him to one of the country's top 1,000 earners.
"In the Sunday Times Rich List, I was 962 and David Beckham also occupied the same position. So, I was in very good company."
Mr Chadha, who lives in Whitefield, is married with a son and daughter. He has been a member of the Rotary Club of Bury since 1992.
