BURY'S Tracey Neville has spoken of her disappointment at missing out on a Commonwealth Games netball medal.

The talented 25-year-old was surprisingly left out of the England team for Sunday's bronze medal play-off game with Jamaica - a game they lost 55-53.

Her omission was all the more surprising as two days earlier in the semi-finals she played a major part in the team that did brilliantly to push the Aussies - eventual gold medallists - all the way before going down 38-49.

"Obviously I was gutted to miss out on the Jamaica game, " admitted Tracey.

"I was told two hours before the match but wasn't told why I wasn't selected.

"We'll be having a de-brief meeting soon so I'm sure a lot of things will be brought up and sorted out then.

"There's no sour grapes but obviously I wonder if there would have been a different result had I played.

"Our coaches are brilliant and I trust any decisions they made but I really need to know what I needed to do to get on the court.

"Netball has always been my great passion and will continue to be."

Next in line for the England netball set-up are September's trials for next year's World Championships but missing out on a medal will see them slip down the world rankings and result in a drop in funding.

Friday's match against Australia was the highlight of the tournament for Tracey who reckoned England went into the competition as strong as they've ever been.

"No other team made the Australians look like we did in the semi-final," she said. "Not even the New Zealanders.

"We didn't deserve to lose by that margin so to miss out on a medal after that performance was especially disappointing."

"We couldn't have done any more."
