A BURY airman has been giving his old sparring partner and Commonwealth Games champion Darren Campbell the runaround.
Corporal Andy Hughes has raced against the English sprinter but has yet to beat Darren who last week won a gold medal in the 4x100m relay and a bronze in the individual 200m race. The squaddie has a 100 metres personal best time of under 11 seconds.
However, Cpl Hughes was on hand over the ten days of the Commonwealth Games to give members of Team England a lift in the RAF-sponsored mini-bus. The vehicle was used to transport competing athletes, including those serving in the RAF such as javelin star Karen Martin.
Cpl Hughes, who was born and bred in Bury but now serves at RAF Bentley Priory in Middlesex, formed part of the RAF's logistics team involved in transportation duties.
