THE eyes of the Commonwealth have been on Radcliffe optometrist Martyn Allen.
Martyn, who works at Brosgill & Procter Opticians in Bridge Street, Ramsbottom, has been helping Commonwealth Games athletes achieve their vision of medal success.
One of a team of four Games optometrists from the company, Martyn has enjoyed the vibrant and exciting atmosphere in the busy athletes' village where he has been offering advice, dealing with last-minute problems and carrying out eye tests on some athletes from under-developed countries who rarely have the opportunity for professional attention at home. "It has been a tremendous buzz, a real once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. I've tested a former world champion boxer and met competitors from all over the world," said Martyn, who lives in Greenbank Road.
Explained managing director Mike Procter: "As a company we pride ourselves on the strong team spirit that we develop and nurture, and were delighted to take part in such a prestigious and dynamic event."
Martyn (27) also regularly works at Stuart Jones Styling Opticians in Manchester's prestigious King Street where top sports personalities are regular visitors to the practice.
