A CENTRE aimed at providing access to computers, helping with learning new skills and job hunting will be officially opened in Nelson on Friday, August 23.
The Lomeshaye Skills for Life Centre has been created in the former Lomeshaye School building, in Lomeshaye Road, which has stood empty for around five years.
It is a joint venture between Pendle Training and the Pendle Pakistani Welfare Association.
The centre will provide support and advice to the whole community, offering access to computers, email and the internet.
A range of courses will be available, including computers and personal skills such as motivation and communication, as well as a job search facility.
A number of special guests are expected to attend the opening including Andrew Heyderman, the workforce development manager for the North West Development Agency.
Project manager Sandra Bignell said: "It's location is ideal. We've created an informal atmosphere so it's a really welcoming place to visit and the opening hours are flexible too.
"Being able to get access to new skills is really important. The centre is open to everyone, regardless of colour, sex or age."
The opening will take place at 4pm and trained staff will demonstrate the equipment.
