THE Queen is the Duke of Lancaster, and still the official owner of Lancaster Castle.
During her visit she was also presented with some new keys to the castle.
Eric Jones who holds the post of Constable of the Castle, presented a specially made castle key, only the fourth of its kind in the castle's 800-year history -- the first one being made in 1204.
The new key was made by John Parkinson and Tony Whittam while serving their apprenticeship with British Energy.
Eric explained the significance of the keys: "The first key was used from 1204 to lock the main gates to the castle and special ceremonial keys were then made to be presented to Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria.
"The presentation will be a very proud moment for me and everyone connected with the castle, especially the makers of the key."
After the presentation the key will be placed on display with the others in the infamous and historic building which saw many people imprisoned and hanged, including East Lancashire's Pendle Witches.
