A MOTHER ran from a court screaming and in tears after an 81-year-old man who had indecently assaulted her 13-year-old daughter escaped being sent to jail.

The hysterical woman, accompanied by relatives, shouted that Norman Owen should be hanged and his sentence of three years Community Rehabilitation Order was not justice.

Owen had befriended the girl and indecently touched her on a bus, in a lift and later in his house, the court heard. He showed the girl porn films and pictures of naked men, including himself. Owen took the girl on trips, bought her meals and gave her sums of cash up to £10 and told her they would eventually have full sex.

But his actions were eventually uncovered when the girl told a teacher at her school. Owen's sexual perversions began when he was in his late 70s when he was convicted of indecent exposure.

He used to stand at the window of his home in Garrett Hall Road, Mosley Common and expose himself when women walked past.

At Bolton Crown Court Owen admitted eight counts of indecent assault on a girl aged under 16.

Judge Gillian Ruaux described Owen as a menace to young girls.

Because of his health problems she sentenced him to the maximum three years Community Rehabilitation Order and ordered he sign the Sex Offenders' Register.
