MARLON Broomes signed for Preston North End but not before he praised the fans and staff at Burnley Football Club.
The former Rovers defender's move to Deepdale disappointed Burnley boss Stan Ternent who had hoped to keep him at Turf Moor after a successful pre-season trial and the player admitted he would have been happy to stay with the Clarets.
"In fairness everyone was fantastic to me at Burnley," he explained. "They were a great bunch of lads, I enjoyed the training and they have certainly got me feeling fit. The staff were great, I have played in six friendlies and I am raring to go.
"Also the fans were brilliant to me, I got applauded off at Bury at the weekend and that meant a lot to me. I hope they realised that I was trying hard for the team.
"But when it came down to it the club could only offer me a short term deal while Preston came in with a longer contract. I think with a two-year-deal I have got a great chance to establish myself at the club and that is what I want to do.
"Like Preston, Burnley is a big club and I hope that they do well this season. The lads and the staff deserve it. I know money is tight and that is why they have not been able to offer Marlon (Beresford) and myself a deal."
And as he reflected on his decision to opt for North End he immediately vowed to prove Rovers boss Graeme Souness wrong.
The 24-year-old defender was allowed to leave Ewood Park and he admitted he is desperate to get his career back on track.
"I have got a lot to prove because in my time at Blackburn I never got a proper run in the side," he explained. "I never established myself but I want to show Blackburn that they were wrong to let me go.
"I want to be back in the Premier League and I think I can get there with Preston. I did not have a big part to play in Blackburn's promotion and that makes me all the more determined to earn my place in the Preston team and then keep it.
"I have played at a few different clubs in the past couple of years but I have now got some stability and the chance to show what I am capable of."
