LEYLAND pop hopeful Lee Parkinson, who braved the wrath of Pop Idol's judges last year, is getting ready to have another go as he prepares to audition for Popstars: The Rivals.

The plucky 18-year-old, who has lost more than four stone in weight after being called 'too fat for pop' by music guru Pete Waterman, is considering going to the auditions for the new television series to find a girl and boy band.

Last year Lee, of Boundary Street, performed the Wet, Wet, Wet hit 'Love is All Around' in front of the now notorious panel -- including Pete Waterman -- for the auditions of Pop Idol.

He was cut down by record producer Pete's personal comment and didn't make it to the next audition -- losing his chance to be the next Gareth Gates or Will Young.

But determined Lee says he was spurred on by Pete's negative criticism and is ready to make a comeback for the judges for Popstars: The Rivals including Pete Waterman -- who helped send Kylie to fame -- former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and Big Brother presenter Davina McCall.

Lee said: "If I see Pete again I'll thank him.

"It wasn't kind what he said but it gave me the push to do something.

"I have lost more than four stone through Weightwatchers and I've been taking dance lessons.

"I'm in to all kinds of music but I like dance music most.

"If I was in a boyband like Blue that would be great."

Even if he doesn't make it onto Top of the Pops, Lee said the audition would be a great way of meeting his two idols Davina and Geri. "I think they're great," said Lee. Having just returned from a two week holiday in Tenerife with his cousin, Lee is raring to go.

He is now deciding what to wear and what song to sing on the day if he gives it another shot.

The auditions will be held on Friday August 16 at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester.
