BLACKPOOL will be flying high this Sunday (August 11) as the town's annual Sky Show air display takes off!
The flying thrills begins between North and Central piers at 2pm, with breathtaking displays by RAF aircraft including a ground-attack Jaguar, a Warton-built 1,500 mph Tornado F3 swing-wing fighter, the Tucano turbo-prop trainer and a Hawk -- the plane made famous by the RAF Red Arrows aerobatic team.
The amazing aerial action will take place during a four-hour beach-side marathon.
And the afternoon will finish with an exciting beach assault by the RAF Regiment display team featuring a Puma helicopter.
On the ground the RAF show on the Promenade and Princess Parade will fascinate fans of aviation on August 9, 10 and 11.
The public can see replicas of the Hawk and a Hercules transport plane plus a Lightning cockpit up close and talk with RAF officers from the tactical supply wing, survival equipment, logistics and catering schools and more about what life is like in the RAF.
During the afternoon, daredevils Sophie Sharpe and Marie Duguid will also be flying through the air with the greatest of ease as they wing walk on the Utterly Butterly Boeing Stearman biplanes.
Jane Seddon, Blackpool's head of tourism, said: "Blackpool's colourful skyline is set to become the backdrop for a series of spectacular air displays, as some of the country's top aviators reach for the sky.
"Blackpool is steeped in aviation history. We even held one of the world's first air shows here. It's going to be a fantastic afternoon for all the family."
