POLICE are hunting a vicious mugger who left a man unconscious on the pavement after a late-night robbery.
The 49-year-old victim, who does not wish to be named, was attacked from behind in Lawrence Street, Blackburn, as he walked home.
He suffered a fractured jaw and underwent surgery in Blackburn Royal Infirmary following the assault.
The attack happened between 11 and 11.30 on Saturday night. The victim was detained for five days in hospital for observation.
Police have only just released details of the attack because the victim had been too ill to tell them exactly what happened.
The mugger got away with a brown leather wallet which contained an unknown amount of cash and photographs.
A police spokesperson said: "Because the victim was attacked from behind and knocked out he did not see his attacker.
"So we are keen to speak to anyone who has any information or may have seen the assailant running off."
Anyone who can help should contact DC Harwood on 01254 353567.
