MARLON Broomes has turned his back on Burnley and joined Lancashire rivals Preston North End.

The Birmingham born, former Blackburn Rovers trainee had been training with Burnley for most of the summer break but has had a move to Preston on his mind for some time now.

Broomes said: "I've known that Preston were interested in me for quite a few weeks now and I met up with Craig Brown last week and I liked what he had to say.

"He's a top manager, he said good things to me and I was very impressed."

Broomes is certainly no stranger to the area after playing for Blackburn Rovers for six years and has played at Deepdale quite a few times.

"Many years ago I played here for Blackburn Rovers' reserveswhen the stadium looked a little bit different so I'm quite familiar with the place and I'm delighted I'm on board."

Broomes is a former England Under-21 international and arrives on a free-transfer from Blackburn Rovers after being released from the Ewood Park club. He will sign a two-year deal tomorrow subject to a medical.

Preston Chief Executive Tony Scholes said: "We are delighted to bring a player like Marlon to the club who has experience of the Premiership experience, all be it he is only 24-years-old."
