A NEWLY-WED who took part in a "pack attack," in which a taxi office worker suffered a broken ankle has been jailed for six months.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Mohammed Quadri, 27, was one of a gang some of whose members were armed with hammers and a bar.

Quadri was told by Judge Raymond Bennett people must understand if they took part in pack attacks prison would follow.

The defendant, of Elm Street, Burnley, had earlier admitted affray.

Mark Lamberty, prosecuting, said two cars turned up outside the victim's house and he was approached by five men, one of them being the defendant.

One man was carrying two hammers, the gang ran towards the taxi worker and as he ran off he was attacked by Quadri's accomplices.

He turned to find the defendant right behind him and the rest of the group in pursuit.

The victim ran into a shop and was assaulted. He was punched, kicked and hit with a crowbar. He suffered a fracture to his left ankle, lacerations and had to have 15 stitches in his forehead.

Charlotte Colley, defending, said Quadri's involvement in the offence was limited. He did not carry out any specific violence himself but accepted he was part of a group of people in the incident.
