CLARETS boss Stan Ternent is confident that the transfer window proposed by FIFA will not apply to Football League clubs.

His hopes were endorsed by a League spokesman who has claimed that they hope the exemption will be confirmed in the next few days.

There have been fears that in the current financial climate clubs would struggle if they did not have the opportunity to buy and sell players throughout the season.

"I don't think it will happen in the Football League because it would be very difficult," said Ternent. "Also there are about 650 established players out of work and if they can't sign for clubs after August 31, that must be a restraint of trade. If the window was to be introduced, if I was to sell any players it would have to be done in the next three weeks but I hope that won't happen."

Ternent is aware that he may be forced to sell at some stage in the season but he is determined to hang on to the likes of Glen Little and Ian Moore for as long as possible.

Ian Christon from the Football League explained: "We are still in discussions with FIFA but we are confident about the outcome. We recently had a meeting with them where we put across our arguments against having a transfer window and we were encouraged because we felt they finally understood our point of view. "They came back with various proposals that we discussed with the clubs before sending them our revised proposals.

"That letter went to them via the Football Association and we expect a decision very soon. Obviously the cut off date is at the end of the month and so we need to have everything clear by then."

Watson has also clarified the situation in relation to fans asking for their season tickets to be refunded in the light of the lack of any new summer signings.

Ternent had said that frustrated fans had been asking for their money back and Watson said: "We have had one or two calls but the vast majority of the fans want to get right behind their club and support them again this season.
