STAN Ternent is going to contact Sky to see if they have video evidence in relation to the alleged head-butt by Arthur Gnohere on Gary Hart.

The Burnley boss has studied the club video but that has missed the incident and he explained today: "I need to see it before I decide whether to appeal the decision.

"Some people are telling me that Arthur showed intent and that means a red card. I have told the ref (Tony Bates) I will be looking at it and he said he will as well if I decide to appeal.

"If I had seen it I would comment but I didn't. I had a chat with Arthur and he said he didn't touch him. If he did I will deal with him very severely internally."

But Ternent has hit out at the continuing inconsistency of referees on the first weekend of the season after watching Wolves' Nathan Blake escape a red card for a butt in yesterday's 0-0 draw against Bradford.

Television clearly showed he made contact with David Wetherall and Ternent claimed: "The difference was he did not go down."

The French defender's dismissal contributed to the 3-1 defeat by first division new boys Brighton and Hove Albion and came shortly after the interval when the Clarets were just one down and pressing hard for an equaliser.

Despite the sending off, furious Ternent was not looking for excuses and he is hoping the dismal defeat may prove to be "a blessing in disguise".

But he has warned his players in no uncertain terms that they must improve immediately or he will replace them with youngsters.

"I have spoken to the players at length," he fumed. "Just because we didn't strengthen the squad and they feel there is no competition, they are wrong.

"If I don't get a better performance in the basic fundamentals of football, they won't play.

"I will put the kids in if I have to. I have done it before and I will do it again.

"Saturday's performance was just not good enough for me and the players owe a debt to the fans.

"I am at a loss for words over a performance like that but the ultimate responsibility is mine because I pick the team.

"If we play to our potential we are a pretty good side and I have told the players I normally stand up for them - but not if they play like that.

"The display surprised me big style and there is only one place we are going if we don't improve on that! I have to shake them up."

Because of Ipswich's involvement in the UEFA Cup this week, the Clarets have not got the chance to get the disappointment out of their system straight away and Ternent admitted that might be a disappointment.

But he also showed his determination to get things right for Saturday's trip to Wolves by calling his men in for training yesterday as he explained: "If you are going to get a day off, you have to earn it.

"That was just a ridiculously bad day at the office, it is not the fact of losing but the way we lost. We just weren't competitive.

"But you can bet your bottom dollar that win, lose or draw we will be better than that next time.
