FAMILIES are being invited to have a scorcher of a day out.

Whitefield firefighters are to hold an open day at their Bury New Road station on Sunday, September 1.

While having fun will be the main order of the day, the event will also have a serious side with firefighters promoting home safety advice.

The fire service's mascot Welephant will be on hand during the day and youngsters will be able to have a go at an assault course. A number of fire engines past and present will be on show and a host of top prizes can be won in a raffle.

The open starts a 11am until 4pm.

All proceeds from the open day will go towards the Fire Service Benevolent Fund.
