BUSINESSES and householders in East Bury can find out what's happening on their doorstep by looking at the highway. The information super highway, that is.

And by taking a peek at the worldwide web, they will be able to find out more about the help and support which is available within East Bury.

To make access to their services even easier, WISE (Workplace Initiatives for Safer Environments), a partnership scheme run by Bury Council and Groundwork Bury, have now taken to the Internet and established their very own website about workplace health and safety.

Packed with information about the free service, the web pages are intended to allow local businesses to browse at their leisure and find out for themselves just how they could benefit.

Local authority environmental health officer, Freda Reiss, who with health and safety advisor from Groundwork, Frank Seed, is co-ordinating WISE, said: "The Workplace Initiatives for Safer Environments is a three year project which began in December 2001. Its aim is to improve occupational health and safety within small and medium sized businesses in the East Bury area. "That will have a knock-on effect of improving the environment for the local community. To date we have worked with more than 20 local concerns and that has enabled them to create a safer and healthier environment for their staff at minimal cost."

He added: "Now, we are hoping that through our website www.wiseproject.co.uk it will give even more companies a chance to take advantage of the services we have to offer."

The WISE scheme, which is being supported by the East Bury Initiative, is not relying solely on the website though. For those who do not have access to the Internet, a simple telephone call to 253-5557, will bring further information.
