A BURY man is on the starting grid for his big charity event of the year.

A Track Day at the Three Sisters racing circuit in Wigan will take place this Friday (Aug 16) in aid of Round Table Children's Wish.

John Francis, of Woodgate Avenue, Jericho, has masterminded the event, which was held for the first time last year, in his capacity as chairman of the Days of Funder Motorsport Club.

He said: "We have so far raised £5,000 for the children's charity with various activities prior to our big track day. We hope a good crowd will come along to support the event and enjoy the day."

Among the attractions will be a Formula 1 car, World rally car, hot-rods, and vehicles ranging from Ginettas and Hillman Imps to a Citroen 2CV.

Off the circuit, there will be a small car show and a display by British auto-test champion Steve Johnson. A bouncy castle will also help to keep youngsters entertained.

There is also the chance for people to drive their own cars on the circuit on the day, but this has to be booked in advance.

Midwives from Fairfield Hospital will be acting as grid girls for the day.

Anyone wishing for more information about the event, which runs from 9am to 5pm, can log onto the website at www.dofmc.org.uk or for a booking form can contact John via e-mail on jpfrancis@charitywork.fsnet.co.uk.
