SO a bar in Blackburn town centre has lowered its prices to just 50p a drink (LET, August 6) and, no doubt, competitors will feel compelled to follow suit. This will, without doubt, result in more rowdy behaviour, vandalism, and yet more vomit.

Decent, sober, law-abiding citizens rarely dare to venture into the town centre after 5pm. Now, I am sure they will abandon the place altogether

While licensees rake in yet more profits, it will be the council tax payers, sitting safely at home, who pick up the bill for more police, more street cleaners, etc.

It is time the council found some way of imposing a local surcharge on licensed premises that generate so many problems both directly and indirectly to the local community.
