CONGRATULATIONS to Blackburn with Darwen Council -- after holding the record for having the most holes in the road, they have now merited entry in the Guiness Book of Records for having the most expensive car park in the country (LET, August 10).
It cost £2.5 million and will hold about 20 cars, covering up the much heralded wonderful cobbles in new-look Church Street.
Was it worth all the weeks of misery suffered by motorists as they struggled to get to their workplaces? I think not.
A pedestrianised area should be just that and not a half-hearted effort. The whole effect is married by the parked cars and the wigwams and what is the purpose of the parallel bars, please?
By the way, is parking free? If so, that must be a first for Blackburn!
EILEEN EASTHAM, Milton Close, Darwen.
