FOLLOWING the recent spate of letters over the use of speed cameras and their effectiveness in controlling speed and saving lives, we have one road in East Lancashire renowned for speed and accidents, that is the Grane Road between Blackburn and Haslingden.
It has signs that inform motorists of the number of accidents and that speed cameras are present.
But, alas, none is visible because they are not there.
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph ran a campaign along with other safety groups over the danger users face on this road.
It resulted in a few new signs and road markings but nothing tangible to discourage speeding motorists.
With the Lancashire police expounding road safety, I would have thought this would have been an ideal road for speed cameras.
With the police inactivity on this road, I, with most people, believe that the speed cameras are being used to generate revenue and not to improve the safety of our roads.
