A PARK was sealed off today by police investigating a serious sex assault on two 14-year-old girls.
A police van was today blocking the entrance way to remote Letcliffe Country Park, off Manchester Road, Barnoldswick, and the area was taped off.
Two men have been arrested and were due to be interviewed today.
Police were also due to question the girls further to find out more details about the incident, which happened at around 8.45pm yesterday.
Police taped off the scene from the main Manchester Road along a quiet country lane which connects Barnoldswick to Barrowford and leads up to the country park.
Neighbours living in the few nearby houses said they had heard nothing about the incident but were shocked to hear news of the allegation.
Newsagent Mrs Pauline Edmondson, of Edmondson's news, Rainhall Road, Barnoldswick, said she had been told of the alleged incident by a milkman who had been doing his rounds in the streets near the park in the early hours of today.
Det Sgt Steve Mounsey confirmed two men were in custody in Burnley police station relating to an incident in Barnoldswick yesterday.
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "We have had an allegation of sexual assault from two 14-year-old girls at about 8.45pm yesterday."
