AN internationally acclaimed Preston sculptor will be exhibiting his latest masterpiece at a prestigious horticultural show.

Charles Hadcock, 36, who is renowned for his mammoth sculptures, unveiled his Sesqui exhibit this week -- a four-tonne, 2.8-metre high cast iron arch -- in time for Southport Flower Show, later this month.

The Preston-based artist, who hails from Derbyshire, is best known for his 20-tonne Passagalia sculpture which is permanently sited on Brighton Beach.

Recently the artist unveiled a new art and design centre in Ribbleton Lane, Preston, supplying studio space in a bid to encourage young, would-be artists to take up the profession.

Over the years Mr Hadcock, who trained at Gloucestershire College of Art and Technology and the Royal College of Art in London, has held numerous exhibitions around the country, particularly in London, and has been commissioned to create sculptures for ICI and Gatwick Airport.

Tim Timmerman, marketing director of Southport Flower Show, said: "Attracting a sculptor of Charles Hadcock's standing is a real coup. I'm sure that his sculpture will be a highlight. The sculpture theme this year has sparked a huge amount of interest from existing and new exhibitors. Visitors will be dazzled by the huge array of garden art on offer.

Southport Flower Show takes place from August 22-24 at Victoria Park in the town. Tickets are £9 for adults in advance and £12 on the day with concessions available. Call 01704 547147.
